i record songs and play most of the instruments, but i work with others
as well. over the years i've played in bands and i've been involved with various
projects that have amounted to very little. i also record noise, make noise,
and encourage others to make noise i can record. i've hacked my way through
several instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, bass, banjo,
drums and percussion, thumb piano, charango, ocarina, keyboards, ukelele, and miscellaneous
noisemakers. i've distributed my music under a bunch of names reflecting
my continual dissatisfaction with them all. many people know my stuff as pitchfork or jasper crabb.
at this point it all doesn't matter. maybe someday I'll put out a real CD.
much of what i do is created spontaneously so my methods of recording are integrated
with my writing technique and style. i'm influenced by many different types of music
such as experimental noise, folk, punk, traditional african, early jazz, bluegrass,
and of course most forms of rock. i prefer real instruments and i make homemade samples, though i do use stuff from
movies and sound effect CDs. future projects include a CD of street
musicians recorded on streets and subways of the americas and europe, and the release of a couple of collaborations. all of these things will appear on this web site.
